Message the officer has to come in and make out a case. Officer may not show. If he does, he's going to have to do more than say, "well your honor, it looked big".

Some suggestions in general:

1. Get the longest continuance possible. (insurance and DMV records go by violation date, not conviction date, so the longer you stretch it out, the less time it remains on your record before dropping off)

2. Plead not guilty. If the officer shows up, be nice to him beforehand. Let him know that you had hoped to gather some additional evidence but couldn't so you might just change your plea (do this if you have no chance but can take traffic school)

3. Fight, if you have a case.

4. If you do take traffic school, take it ASAP, don't continue the case at all. The sooner you take it, the sooner you will be eligible again.

This violation is a non-moving violation though, so if it's cheap, you might just want to pay it.
